Orange Pip Market - The Newest Hottest Event in Town!
Christina Hesford
Today saw Middlesbrough's Baker Street play host to the brand-spanking-new food market and cultural extravaganza of Orange Pip Market! It was a fabulously sunny day (hello sunburn) with dancing tea ladies, flower sellers, and more food than you could shake a rumbling belly at.
I took the Harris 8-shaft table loom down to show people what weaving is and to let them have a go at this ancient skill. Some of the stories that came out of the day were fascinating: a woman who hadn't seen a loom since the one which sat in her parent's front room as a child; a lady who was forced to weave during her Art Foundation over 40 years ago and hated it (!); and a little girl who hadn't realised how fabric was made. The children who fearlessly had a go on the loom also absolutely astounded me. No fear!
I'll definitely be doing more workshops and demos in the future as this one went down a storm. Feel free to get in touch if you think you'd like to have a loom at your event too!
