Thorns in my side
Thorns in my side
2016. Silk, paper yarns.
Thorns in my side is hand-woven from silk and hand-knotted paper yarn which interrupts the surface of the silk to create a piece that is peaceful, undulating, and varied; aiming to use the humble knot to explore the idea of imperfection as perfection.
As a part of a society which throws everything away once it seems broken, without considering the potential for its repair, this piece explores the parallels between people’s attitudes to broken objects, and people’s attitudes to themselves. The use of the knot in this artwork examines the duality of human fallibility and its perfection for being so.
